Ap Chau Public Pier is situated at Ap Chau in North District. Ap Chau, located in Double Haven Special Area, is a small island off the north-eastern coast of the New Territories within the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark. Ap Chau Public Pier was constructed more than 50 years ago. At present, the pier is frequently used by fishermen, Ap Chau residents, and guided tours during the weekends.
Learn moreAp Chau Story Room is in one of the village houses near the pier. It showcases the distinctive geology of Ap Chau and culture and heritage of the fishermen. Hong Kong's smallest inhabited island, Ap Chau, or “Duck Island” in Cantonese, is named on account of the curved shape of its rocky landmass due to erosion, which resembles a duck when viewed from a distance.
As you take a short, leisurely stroll along the island's shoreline, you can notice the distinctive ochre sedimentary rock, namely breccia. The gap in the hill created by sea erosion is like the duck's neck. It is the perfect place to closely examine the distinctive texture and layers of the ochre rock.
Duck's Eye (at the “duck's head”), lying on the northwestern tip of the island, is a sea arch formed by the relentless erosion of the sea. It is one of the most popular and Instagrammable spots on the island. From the left of Duck's eye, the view opens up to Mirs Bay, while towards the north, the high-rise development of sprawling Shenzhen.
